Students' attitudes towards teacher's use of Vietnamese in EFL classrooms at Vietnam National University Hanoi, International School

The role of L1 in L2 classrooms has without any doubt been the hot topic debates and discussions. In particular, some linguists educators do not support use teaching L2, whereas others emphasize importance classes. Although studies have done on both teachers’ students’ attitudes toward classroom, it still remains question when how can become an effective supporting tool for L2. goal this research is to present results functionality (Vietnamese language) (EFL) under perspectives. A survey questionnaire was designed deliver participants study: 126 students at intermediate level General English program Vietnam National University Hanoi, International School (VNU-IS). study's findings indicated that VNU-IS student were satisfied with their teacher’s L1. usage also discovered be preferred following purposes: language functionality, managerial social functionality. Among them, most favored by students. revealed Vietnamese should considered as a backup rather than barrier teachers.
